The fourth company in our examination is American States Water, with a market capitalization of $623M.

Yahoo Finance offers the following description:

American States Water Company, through its principal subsidiary, Golden State Water Company (GSWC), engages in the purchase, production, and distribution of water. It also distributes electricity in one customer service area. GSWC operates in 75 communities in 10 counties in the State of California and provides water service in 21 customer service areas. It also provides electric service to the City of Big Bear Lake and surrounding areas in San Bernardino County.

With a current price of $38.45, the company exhibits numbers that generally conform with the industry. A P/E of 28.5 is a bit lower than the industry average. The PEG of 4.7 is higher than this average, but a P/S of 2.6 is among the lowest of the group. Quarterly Revenue Growth of 8.3% is just a bit better than the group average. The Dividend Yield is 2.4%, and Debt/Equity of 1.1 do not stand out either way.

The 2006 chart shows volitility during the first half of the year, with the price running from $32 to $45 to $35, but settled down during the second half.

These numbers keep American States Water in the running.
